Been a while since I made some music. Been inspired to make some the last few days, but really only had a chance this evening to sit down and hammer something out. This time, I didn’t use any samples. I played everything out as an original composition. I’m actually pretty hyped on this one. It’s just pretty laid back. I enjoy it. I hope you do!

HEALTHY DIALOGUE KEEPS YOU MOVING FORWARD IN A TEAM.

A little nugget from my daily horoscope for tomorrow, April 13th. As a rookie designer what I’m learning is the value of transparency and directness in a respectful dialogue. Sometimes as a designer and working in a team, there are some hard discussions and topics that can be touchy, but need to be addressed. If everyone goes into it with mutual respect, an open mind, and with the same shared goal from a team perspective, without personal agendas, there’s only good that is going to come out of that dialogue.

Maybe that’s preaching to the choir a bit, but the truth of the matter is, there are times where I’ve just accepted a decision without either: a) finding out the reason why, or b) standing up for a view I feel strongly about. What I’ve found is the importance of raising those questions to the group, speaking up and challenging the decisions made that you may see differently, and also being open minded to the solutions others pose in front of you.

You’ll never grow and learn if you always think and feel deeply that your way is the right and only way. Sometimes, even when you feel strongly about something, you need to bring it up and get the perspective of the other side to see where they are coming from. At the end of the day, if the environment of the team dynamic is respectful and purposeful, only good things are going to be produced.

You’re a player. Not the coach. Expect to continue to learn and grow, and you’ll improve your game.

This one is actually my 4th in a week. I don’t think I’ve been going in on music as much as I have lately. Before this, I was in a long dry-spell of trying to make beats but feeling in a rut. I’ve made the conscious decision to really get back into music and be more consistent with production, learning how to mix the beats better, and whatnot. For this one, you may recognize a vocal sample in there, that should bring back a lot of memories for you folks old enough to remember that group. Listen and enjoy. Comment and let me know what you think!

This was a great find today. I decided to go on a solo dolo Lunch mission at work and randomly ended up at the record store for a quick stop. I don’t usually dig at Lunch on a workday, but today was a great exception. It was nice to take my mind off work for a quick bit and get into the crates. This a really soulful joint from Nicolay (Foreign Exchange) featuring Darien Brockington. The picture disk tops it all off – and the icing on the cake is that I only got it for $2.95 – too ill.

The Night Owl Record Show is coming up on the 12th (Thursday). I plan on going. Hit me up if you are in the Portland/Beaverton area and plan on going!

I’m on a full fledged roll now. Went digging today at lunch and came up on some dope records. I used some ill stuff from one of the .10 cent records I copped today. I’m in the whole boom bap phase again – but I guess, I’ve never left it. This is sort of my favorite genre/era of hip-hop music, and I tend to gravitate towards it a lot. Oh well.

Again, enjoy.
